TrueCost Privacy Policy

Effective September 7, 2026

TrueCost helps users evaluate the personal impact of a potential purchase before deciding whether to buy it. It is designed to keep financial inputs and purchase decisions in the user's local Chrome profile.

Information TrueCost processes

TrueCost may process financial information entered by the user, such as income, expenses, savings target, working hours and purchase amounts. After the user asks TrueCost to analyze the active page, it may also process the displayed product name, price and page URL.

Purchase analyses, cooling-off records, Buy/Skip outcomes and Money Kept totals are stored locally. For optional TrueCost PRO activation, TrueCost processes the checkout email, license key and a browser license-instance identifier.

How information is used

Information is used only to provide purchase analysis, decision history, cooling-off and license-verification features. TrueCost does not use personal information for advertising, advertising profiles, lending, creditworthiness or the sale of data.

Storage and sharing

Financial inputs, product analyses and decision history are stored using Chrome's local extension storage. TrueCost does not operate a cloud account or developer-controlled database for this information.

If the user chooses TrueCost PRO, the checkout email, license key and license-instance identifier are sent directly to Lemon Squeezy over HTTPS to activate, verify or deactivate the license. Payment information is collected by Lemon Squeezy; TrueCost does not receive or store card details.

TrueCost does not sell user data or share it with data brokers or advertising networks.

Browser access

TrueCost requests temporary access to the active tab only when the user invokes product analysis. It does not continuously monitor browsing activity and does not maintain a browsing-history service.

Data retention and deletion

Information remains in the user's local Chrome profile until the user deletes it through TrueCost, removes the extension and its data, or clears the relevant browser storage. Users can edit their financial profile and delete all locally stored TrueCost data from the dashboard.

PRO users should select Deactivate on this browser before deleting local data when possible. Subscription and transaction records held by Lemon Squeezy are subject to Lemon Squeezy's retention requirements and customer controls.

Google API Limited Use

If a future optional Google Sheets feature is enabled, it will request the minimum access required to write only to a file created or selected through TrueCost. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Security and changes

License requests are sent to Lemon Squeezy over HTTPS. No electronic storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure, but TrueCost limits network access and stored data to what is needed for its stated purpose.

Material changes to this policy will be reflected by updating the effective date.
